Having problems with your 1998 Cadillac DeVille ?

1998 cadillac deville coolant fan does not come on at 224 f, a/c fixed and fan will come on, the one on the left as you are looking at the car. but not the smaller fan now i had the smaller fan on the right as you are looking at the car hot wired in but it blew the fuse every time the a/c was turned on changed all three relays, temostat checked temp sensor. is it a way to isolate that fan on a switch or something that would allow it to work in conjuction with the a/c.

HI. I have a very thorough, step by step procedure that will help troubleshoot this issue. follow carefully to isolate the problem, Use extreme caution when preforming this inspection procedure.

1
Check for broken wires or loose connectors around the affected fan circuit. Inspect connectors at the fan motor, relay, sensor or heat sensitive switch, and the Electronic Control Module (ECM)--your car’s computer control system. Also, make sure to check for a possible blown fan fuse. These are common and overlooked troublesome spots that may cause a fan to fail.

2
Run and bring the engine to warm temperature. With the engine running, use a voltage test light to check for power to the motor fan. Be extra careful and make sure to keep your hands and tools away from the belt, fan or any other engine moving parts. If voltage is reaching the fan motor, the test light should glow.

3
Turn off the engine after you see the light glow. Apply direct voltage to the fan motor from your car battery using a pair of spare wires. If the fan fails to operate, replace the fan motor. If the motor operates, your problem is in the motor connector.

4
Locate the heat-sensitive switch or heating sensor if the fan motor operates with direct voltage and the test light did not glow. You should find the sensor in the radiator, engine block, or thermostat housing.

5
Measure the resistance across the heating sensor with the multimeter. With the engine at cool temperature (engine off), it should register infinite resistance; with the engine at warm temperature (engine off), you should read low resistance. If both readings state infinite resistance install a new heating sensor, that’s the cause of your failing fan.

6
Check the action of the fan relay if the heating sensor is registering variable resistance. Your service manual should specify the power and ground wires according to color codes and the proper way to test it. If the fan relay fails the test replace it with a new one.

7
Check the connections going to the ECM after you determine the fan relay is working properly. If you find broken wires or loose connectors, make the necessary repairs. If you suspect a defective ECM take your vehicle to a service shop for a computer analysis. In most cases, the ECM is rare to be the cause of a failing fan. The above steps should take you to the root cause of your problem and help you fix the cooler fan.

Cooling fan won't come on when car is up to temp. Fan came on when power wire to it was grounded out. The new thermostat is hooked in but does not work either. Wondering is the coolant temp sensor is bad (looks new). Also the headlights randomly lose power (was hooked into same circuit as cooling fan, so they'd go out when car up to temp, but we thought we'd fixed. Previous owner evidently installed all new ECM. I have a 1994 cutlass s wagon. It had overheating issue and a coolant leak. I had the upper and lower intake manifold gaskets replaced and two quick release connector and some hoses replace by a local shop. Now I have no leak but the temp still creeps up when in stop and go traffic or at stop lights. I check car when this happens but the an does not come on. The only way I see the fan come on is I turn on the AC. Where is the switch that should turn on the fan when the temp raises?

The fans should come on when the car reaches 225 degrees. ... 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

I have a 97 Jeep Cherokee Sport The cooling fan is not coming on and forcing the car to overheat. I checked the plug, it was good. I then checked the relay and fuse. I took them out and inspected them, they looked fine, except the fuse was put in backwards facing from the rest. I put it back in like the others and started the car. I turned on the A/C, since this was the only immediate way of testing the fan and it started running again but, I went in to rinse my hands and by the time I came out

Fuses are non-directional so it does not matter which way it was installed. Looking at a relay from the outside tells you nothing about what's going on inside of it. I'm not positive on yours but I'm pretty sure that fan relay for the a/c is differen ... 1997 Jeep Cherokee

I HAVE A 2003 SATURN ION. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. I HAD THE CAR HOOKED UP TO AN ANALYZER AND IT COMES UP WITH A MAP SENSOR CODE. I REPLACED THE MAP SENSOR AND THE PROBLEM DID NOT GO AWAY. THE CAR, AFTER DRIVEN FOR ABOUT 15 MILES ON THE X-WAY, IDLES AT 1800 RPMS UNTIL I TURN THE CAR OFF. WHEN I START THE CAR, WITHIN A FEW SECONDS, IT IDLES FINE. I TOOK IT TO A GARAGE AND WITH THEIR ANALYZER THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG OTHER THAN IT LOOKED LIKE THE COOLANT TEMP SENSOR WAS READING

My cooling fans are coming on when the engine starts up. When I turn the car off the fans stay running after only a short journey. The temp gauge is going but doesn't move because the fans are alway going. I have checked fuses and replaced burnt out 15amp and replaced the temp sender unit but still no joy. What next?

My 1993 Pontiac Bonneville electric cooling fan doesn't come on. I believe that these fans should come on when temp is bet 180 and 200 deg. I also checked the fuse and is good, also took out fan and tested with car batt. and they work. Do you have any suggestions.

Very possibly a thermostat issue. A faulty thermostat won't trigger the fans. ... 1993 Pontiac Bonneville

I have a 1996 Mazda 626, the check engine light came on and the car has been redlining the the temp gauge. I got the engine codes which are: p0117 and p0421. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Code p0117 comes up as "Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Low Input" and p0421 comes up as "Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)." I checked my relay for the cooling fan and it's not reading anything, could this be the solution?

The cooling fan must run or the car must be running into the wind to keep from cooking the engine. Physically turn the fan to see if it turns freely (cold engine). The computer reads coolant temperature and trips the fan relay on when normal temperat ... 2000 Mazda 626

2003 Jetta Thank you for your answer I have cleared the code again replaced the ECT and checked the plug for it (clean) and so far the light hasn't come back on. I just bought this 200 oldsmobile intrigue. I am a new car owner and I don't know much. I don't really know wahat to look for. The car has an overheating problem. I get smoke where the over flow pump is coming from the coolant tank. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be connected? I get heat. The fans kick on at a certain temp. When I bought it they said it may be a head gasket problem. But I'm not sure where to even look. It runs for about an half hr before I have to shut it down. Can you tell m

Hi. My 2000 Olds Silhouette goes from normal temp mark to almost top of hot range. It will fluctuate between the two while driving. Noticed the fans don't seem to come on unless a/c switch is on. Looked at 4 wire coupling in between the two fans and two connections are severely burnt and plastic melted. Short? How do I check fan for proper operation? Can I just bypass somehow so that the fans are aways on?

Temperature gage registers from cold to normal and back to cold during highway driving. The temp registers cold for the first 20 minutes of highway driving and then it may reach normal then goes back to cold. While this is going on there is no heat coming from the air vents regarless of the selected position. The fan blows but it is cold air. The only heat is a very slight amount coming from the vents but not enough to warm the car. I checked the water hose from the radiator to the engine and it
