If you are losing refrigerant (that vehicle uses 134a) there is a leak\015\012somewhere. If you are not losing refrigerant, there are several things\015\012that you can check.
\015\012
\015\012You say you replaced the refrigerant twice and recharged it twice. Was\015\012the system evacuated and recharged, or did you just use a DIY kit.?\015\012With 134a too much is a bad as not enough, an overcharged system will\015\012not cool!
\015\012
\015\012A bad expansion valve will allow system pressure to build, and will\015\012make the compressor work harder, which would account for your feeling\015\012that the A/C is taking power from the engine.
\015\012
\015\012A bad radiator cooling fan will do the same thing. Does the radiator fan come on when you turn on the a/c?
\015\012
\015\012The heater control valve could be bad, or the air mix door not working\015\012properly, allowing the heater to be actually heating the air\015\012conditioned air. If the a/c actually gets warmer than the outside air,\015\012then this is what I would look for first! It may be as simple as a\015\012vacuum leak in a control line!
