Having problems with your 1999 BMW M3 ?

Yesterday I went to drop off a package, I turned off my BMW 1995 525i and went to turn it back on and the power went on but not the car. I pulled out the key put it back in again and it started. Today it started without a problem but after driving for about 15 minutes all the power and gages went out on the dash. No speedometer, fuel went to zero, tackometer, nothing worked. Radio working fine, no warning lights on, car ran normally... affraid to turn the car off I kept it running to run errands

Congratulations on owing a great car. You will need to remove the negative battery cable. Let it set for 30 minutes - then reinstall. The good thing about your car is it can reset the computer just this easy. The bad news is if it doesn't you're going to have to take it to an authorized repair show. These cars are not ever made for the owner to do anything to them but drive them. Please - take down the vin number - drive the car to a local dealer and first ask about RECALLS -this could be a FREE FIX if it is a RECALL item. Many owners fix the dealer FREE repairs and never know it. You do not need to be the owner even on these RECALL fixes. It may be even a ne bad battery - I have seen it happen where a new battery was damaged at the factory. Also - have them check the alternator output as - like you say - it sounds electrical. In closing - The one thing to maintain here is to not make it worse and on BMW it can get worse in a hurry if you don't know exactly what you're doing. As a BMW factory mechanic I have to implore you to take it to a qualified repair shop.
