1978 now you are going to make me think, it has been awhile. first take a test light and hook the clamp to a good ground, then turn the key on you should have 12 volts to the positive side of the coil if not check for a blown fuse, then touch the prob to the negative side of the coil and crank the engine over the test light should blink on and off, if it does it is a bad coil if not remove the dist. cap and make sure the rotor bug turns when you crank the engine if it does not replace the timing chain in the engine, if the dist. turns replace the points or try re-gapping them to start with just use a match book cover to set the gap if that gets it running then set the points with a dwell meter to 30 degrees.....GOOD LUCK
\015\012I have had this problem twice and both times it turned out to be a bad condenser. You can buy the complete tune up kit and it will have the condenser inside, And some people just buy the one part. Either way should get you back up and running.
\015\012I hope this saves your weekend
