Having problems with your 1983 Ford Ranger ?

When pushing down the pedal, the gears and pto is grinding more and more as time goes by. I adjusted the clutch pedal , but no help. Can this problem be fixed by a shade tree mechanic or do I need to take the tractor to a mechanic?

Answers :

I am not a diesel mechanic, a tractor mechanic, or a shade tree mechanic. But, it sounds to me like it is time for a new clutch pack. Anyone with reasonable knowledge of simple mechanics can do this job at a much cheaper price than a professional diesel or tractor mechanic, but it can be a heavy duty job. I would weigh the differences in downtime of my equipment and the ability of my shade tree mechanic.
IF teh mechanic you choose knows the tractor he can fix it. It sounds like it needs a new clutch plate or Throwout bearing or both.
