Yes connecting the wires wrong would cause damage or at least pop the fuse. recheck your work and all the fuses under the hood. did you have the battery disconnected when swapping the alternator?
I need a little more information. Have you checked your battery to see if it is fully charged ? And are your battery connections nice and clean and tight? Also, when you changed your alternator did you disconnect the negative battery cable before starting to work on the alternator? Do you have a top post or a side post battery ? ( Assuming the battery is in good shape ) turn the ignition switch to the run (on) position, turn your headlights on high beems, and turn your of air conditioner blower fan to the high position. Does the fan run high like it's supposed to and are the headlights nice and bright like normal or are they dim and is the blower running slower than normal?
