Having problems with your 1984 Chevrolet C1500 ?

1984 Chevrolet Custom Deluxe rear hub service

\015 I have a 1984 Chevrolet Custom Deluxe that I'm working on. I removed the rear axles and hubs. I want to replace the wheel bearing and wheel seals. I drained the rear diff and the gear oil looked like chocolate pudding. So I have a few questions. \012\012A. Do the bearings require bearing grease or do they need some type of fluid lubricant?\012\012B. What is a safe cleaner I can buy at the parts store to clean the the nastiness out of the rear diff?\012\012C. As far as the hub seal and axle seal go, is there a type or brand that seals best? \012\012Any info you guys have on this would be a HUGE help! I tried just looking the stuff up on google, but its harder to find than one would think. Thanks in advance!!\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 10-12-2018

Answers :

If you can see inside the wheel bearings then they require lubrication from the differential. If they are sealed then no. You don't say if the rear axles are 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton. No brand of seal will seal better than any other. Spray engine degreaser in the rear end and flush out with water. You may need to do that more than once.
