\015 Hi I Bought A 1984 Pontiac FireBird Trans am 305 V8 404Turbo Tranny with 76,000 miles, It takes forever to turnover it trys it cranks and all that but it only drains the battery. So when it finally does start after talking sweet to it if it does start I rev it a bit till it stops boging out and it runs great but as soon as the engine cools off its the same old thing. Also theres a strong smell of gas while driving. What can I do To at least get it to start up on demand. Answers :

If the smell of fuel is there, check the plugs. Are they all firing.Look at the plugs and see if any look different to the others in color. If so check that cylinder.Check the lead to that plug.Is it ok.At idle, pull the lead on and off and see if the revs drop.If you get a zap,all is good:) Or use a heavy rag.Check all this first. You may have an 8 that is running on 6.Basics 1st.Hope this helps
