Having problems with your 1985 Cadillac Eldorado ?

I cannot start my 1985 Cadillac Eldorado. The spark is ok and I have been told it is a fuel pump problem. On that Eldorado are there two fuel pumps, on inside the tank and on outside underneath?

No, there is only one pump and it's inside the tank. Procedures are pasted below. If the pump is not coming on, you should verify it is bad by applying voltage directly to the connector at the tank (positive to the light blue wire and negative to the black wire). If it comes on when applying voltage at the connector, you have another problem that we will have to troubleshoot. Please get back to me if that is the case, and i will provide troubleshooting procedures.

In-Tank Fuel Pump Replace

  1. \015\012Disconnect the negative battery terminal, open the fuel tank \015\012filler door and disconnect the sending unit feed wire. Release the fuel \015\012pressure.\015\012

  9. \015\012Support the tank with a jack and wooden block and remove one screw\015\012 on each side securing the fuel tank support straps to the body at the \015\012front of the tank.\015\012
  10. \015\012 \015\012
  11. \015\012Lower the jack and tank enough so that the fuel pump electrical lead can be disconnected. Disconnect the wire.\015\012
  12. \015\012 \015\012
  13. \015\012Remove the fuel tank from the car.\015\012

  15. \015\012Remove the locknuts securing the fuel gauge tank unit and fuel pump feed wires to the tank unit.\015\012
  16. \015\012 \015\012
  17. \015\012Turn the cam locking ring counterclockwise with a soft non-ferrous\015\012 punch and hammer. When the lock ring is disengaged, remove it and lift \015\012the gauge/pump unit from the tank.\015\012
