Having problems with your 1985 Volkswagen Jetta ?

I have a 1985 volwagen jetta GL, when I turn the key, sometimes I get nothing, sometimes it turns over and starts. Is this the ignition switch? And if so, where is it located? Thanks all.

Answers :

The ignition switch is where you insert your key and for a car which is used primarily for shorter trips (frequent starts and stops) or a longer period of time (14 years will qualify) it isn't uncommon to have to replace it.\015\012
\015\012Depending on how securely the lock is installed, it may not be possible to do this yourself.\015\012Most cars try to make it difficult for thieves to 'pop the (lock) cylinder' and reach the exposed switch mechanism and drive away.\015\012I know on our vehicles, the lock is secured with a bolt with a twist-off head so once installed, they must be drilled out.
