Having problems with your 1986 Ford F 350 ?

6.9 diesel starts but cuts off after seconds. hard to restart like out of fuel.

Check for air getting in the fuel lines,
It most likely is out of fuel, if you have lots of miles on it it may be the injector pump. This can be rebuilt and replaced with one rebuilt off the rack for less that a new one. The best way is to have it tested. Its not an easy job to remove all the fuel lines but a handy guy with fuel line wrenches can get er done. There are tons of other problems that might be the cause of your problem, water in fuel, colder weather and non seasonally adjusted fuel. Good luck getting it going hope this helps
