Having problems with your 1986 Ford Ranger 2WD ?

Truck runs fine but when you least expect it ,it will quit runing

\015 Truck is a 1986 ford Ranger 2.9 Fuel Inj. 4X4 I have drove this truck app.8 to 10 miles then it would start acting like it was smothering down when you try to give it gas, then it would die I can let it sit for 5 minutes and it will start back, you might move a 100 yards then it will do it again it will continue this for 5 or 6 times then it will start back and you can go on your way.some days I may go 20 miles without it doing this at all,it"s not consistant in what it is doing some days it runs like a new truck and it does not make any difference if the gas tank is on full or only a quarter of a tank .Also the four wheel drive used to work fine but now when you press the 4X4 switch nothing happens ( It is a electric 4X4 in the over head console.)\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 25-10-2021

Answers :

Sounds like a problem with the carb or a o2 sensor check all your fuses and see if you have any that are blown. as far as the 4wd goes there is a electromagnetic ring that engages the 4wd check the switch for power then check the relay connected to that... if thats not the problem then trace from the relay to the hub/or transmission
