Having problems with your 1988 Ford Ranger ?

1988 Ford Ranger dies on startup - electrical?

\015 I have an 88 Ranger with a manual transmission. When attempting to start the vehicle you put in the key and everything lights up. Turn it and it sounds like it starts and then everything immediately dies. When I first noticed this phenomenon I was able to get it to start and remain running if I turned the key really slowly to the point of ignition. Now when I do that I can see the light go out on the radio before it hits. Bad ignition switch? I don't know too much about cars and someone mentioned it was likely not the ignition itself but I forgot what they said. Please help narrow it down.\012\012Brodie\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 23-04-2018

Answers :

Could be a bad ignition switch

Needs to be tested before just replacing it
