Having problems with your 1988 Renault 21 ?

Renault 21 transmission shifting

\015 My Renaults MJ3 transmission has been working well but it wasn't going into second, however three weeks ago the hydraulic distributer needed both it's mounting plate gaskets replaced, the job was done properly and the transmission worked well and changed into all gears beautifully. However after several days I did a long trip that involved going up a hill on a very windy road, the transmission made it through in the end but as it went to change into second after a normal corner near home the engines reves increased dramatically and the transmission stopped pulling up the rise. I immediately stopped and turned the car off and on again and checked the pull, the car got me home but it hasn't gone past first since and won't pull in reverse it just makes a plastic gear trying to push together noise. Everything is in shape with the distributor and solenoids and even if I can't repair it is there a way to nurture it to the mechanics?\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 19-04-2021

Hi Hamish, what you describe is called a 'flaring shift' when revs
\015\012don't correlate to vehicle speed due to a slipping auto.
\015\012have you rechecked the auto oil level when the engine is running,
\015\012sometimes they take a long time to fill because the onboard oil
\015\012pump in the auto in very small.
