Having problems with your 1989 Chevrolet Cavalier ?

1989 cavalier z24 dies at stops and transmission kicks!

\015 Recently replaced air, fuel transmsion, oil filter, oil, tranny fluid and the cat. I cleaned The IAC valve it was really dirty thought it would help. problems- motor dies at stops unless i put it into nuetral, gas tank builds up pressure and makes really wierd sound. When I put my lights on the rpm idles weird. when going into 2nd and 3rd gear it doesnt kick into gear until 5000 rpm, and it really jolts into it when it does. I use qurater tank going 65mph for 25 miles-really bad. Me and my dad found a few vacuum lines the were broken, we taped them with electrical tape, but recently found a stray one, think it connects to the tranny. theres also a house or something broken off the radiator think its to the ac it doesnt work! any ideas. IAC valve, egr valve, fuel injectors, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump?\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 29-06-2020

Answers :

Try replacing the throttle position sensor. I just did this on my 2001 and it's working great now. It's about $30 at autozone and takes about 30 minutes to do.
Also check your Inlet Air Temp Sensor (Located in the Air duct from the Air Filter) I have come across a Malibu with a 2.4 litre engine that was shifting hard and it was because this sensor was unplugged.
