Having problems with your 1989 Chevrolet G20 ?

My serpintine fan belt came off as I started the motor; w/o air conditioner, but it does have power steering- the new belt seems to be too long, even though I had brought in the old one and followed the diagram at the air intake--the size is 14mm *2390mm. Any suggestions?

Answers :

You might need to make sure you pull the fan belt around the tension pully. It is a small roller wheel that has to be pulled back with a half inch drive wrench. Pull yourbelt around all of the pullys and you should see the tension pully. pull the tension pully and pull your belt through it. That should tighten your belt.
All it takes is for one part of the belt to be in the wrong position for it to appear to be too long. Check the diagram again. There is often a diagram in the owner manual as well as under the hood.
