Sounds like wire from the wiringharness are jammed bettween the adjuster which causes the break light too stay on which is grounding out this could be a hazzard the break wire can burn the wiring harness which can cause more problems its same for the starting problems might wanna get checked hope i been some help

Sounds like it could be one of the multi pin connectors on the cables which run along the steering column from under the dash to the ignition switch. There could also be a Chaffed/ Broken wire in the cable.

Check these wiring plugs for a poor connection. Some times the spade connectors in the connecting plug are pushed back because they have not been secured in the plug properly. Check this by gently pulling then pushing each wire in the connector. There should be little or no movement. Any loose ones will be obvious if they come out of the plug.

Check also for a poor/loose Earth wire bolt either behind the Dash or near the Fuse Panel.
