Having problems with your 1989 Toyota Corolla 2 Door ?

Defective tachometer and speedometer

\015 Maybe you guys can help me with the following problems with my 1989 Corolla GTS with 4AGE.\015\0121. As I turn the ignition key to "On" (the engine not yet running) the tachometer immediately reads 2000 rpm. Most of the time also, the tach gets stucked at 2000 rpm when I rev the engine.\015\0122. The speedometer reads 240 kph even if i am only running around 80 kph. This happens 80% of the time.\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 30-03-2020

Answers :

Do the following:1)key in the ON position:remove the 7.5 gauge fuse.Tach needle should read "0:". 2)put it back,go on the engine and unplug the green plug on the igniter -the big one, with 5 or 6 wires on it.The needle on tach reading should be zero.If not you have a short circuit on the black wire between that plug and the plug on the conbination meter.3) If the reading is zero with the plug disconnected, the black wire for the tach is short-circuited inside the igniter. I have one available.email [email protected]
