Having problems with your 1989 Toyota Corolla 2 Door ?

Location of the collant plug

\015 I have a 1989 Toyota Corolla I believe it is the deluxe model, (Very plain.) I have a hard time locating the drain plug. I am afraid that the bolt will not be easy in removing it. Since i have never fully emptied it. What can I do to loosen it, if it is tough to do without harm?\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 15-08-2022

The radiator drain is located on the bottom of\015\012the radiator. \015\012If you are unable to easily locate it,\015\012try removing the bottom radiator hose as a\015\012second way to drain the cooling system. \015\012The power steer pump noise may be caused\015\012by a failing pump – check it out

\015\012\015\012How Do I Change My Car Radiator?\015\012WARNING! A cooling system can have up to 15 p.s.i. \015\012when hot. Only repair or check when the ENGINE IS COLD or personal injury can \015\012result. Always have the vehicle under inspection \015\012on level ground, in park with the emergency brake on. Always wear protective eyewear, \015\012gloves and necessary clothing before inspection or work begins. Never crank an engine \015\012over when anyone is near the battery or engine. Always have an operational fire \015\012extinguisher close by, obey all first aid instructions in the event of an injury. \015\012Never stand in front or behind a vehicle when cranked over or running. When engine \015\012is cranked over keep hands and clothing away from rotating components.

It is usually located in the front of the vehicle under the \015\012hood. The engine creates heat from the internal combustion that continuously occurs \015\012inside the engine, this heat is transferred to the engine coolant, then circulated \015\012through the thermostat then to the radiator. Inside the radiator there are many \015\012small tubes with cooling fins attached that allows the coolant to be cooled and \015\012then returned to the engine in a continuous cycle. Radiators are mostly made of \015\0122 plastic tanks and an aluminum core.

\015\012Step 1 - Identify Radiator and Cooling System \015\012Components (under hood)
\015\012\015\012how_to_replace_radiator.gif\015\012The thermostat housing is where the thermostat resides, it is connected \015\012to the radiator upper tank. The system is filled and checked at the radiator cap.\015\012 The radiator is held in place by the radiator holder brackets and is usually \015\012near the top radiator tank. Some radiator configurations may vary in appearance \015\012but the concept is the same.
\015\012Step 2 - Disconnect Negative Battery Terminal
\015\012\015\012how_to_replace_radiator_2.gif\015\012Make sure the ignition key is in the off position, loosen the terminal \015\012pinch bolt and disconnect the battery terminal (gloves suggested). Anytime you perform \015\012repair work like this it is a good idea to disconnect the battery to avoid electrical \015\012short circuits. Always disconnect the negative battery cable to avoid a short to \015\012ground and NEVER let the wrench contact to positive side of the battery. Make sure \015\012the battery is clean at all times. If corrosion exists rinse battery with water \015\012(hose) and sprinkle with baking soda to naturalize the remaining acid.
