Having problems with your 1990 Ford F150 ?

My 1990 f150, 302 engine starts and runs good for about 12-20miles then it starts to sputter a little bit. The first hill you come to it losess all power, starts spittering and sputttering and backfires, acts like it is running out of gas. let it sit for a few minutes and it is good to go again. any ideas

Answers :

I agree with previous contributor...catalytic converter is plugging up restricting exhaust. ..quick test is to monitor rpm...open throttle to max...drop exhaust pipe from manifold. ..open throttle to max...If converter is restricted rpm will rise then drop off...after exhaust pipe is dropped the rpm will max and not drop off..
Check fuel filter and fuel pump pressure
