It's a problem with the switching of the vent doors in the climate ducting inside the dash. It may be the door actuators themselves, but it could also be your climate control panel. I've seen this happen before, and more often it was the venting doors, but it could be the panel still (I've seen failures of those as well). What you can do is, if you know someone else with a Z, borrow their climate panel (it's easy to remove - two screws on the bottom of the pod, a little finagling with the hazard switch, and then unplugging the harnesses in the back), install it in your car, and try it out - if you are able to control the heat ducts at will with their panel, then yours has failed. If their panel functions just like yours, then you have problems inside the dash with the vent door actuators.

One side note - if you do manage to borrow a climate pod, it must be from a 91-96 Z, as the 90 model had a panel that functioned differently and is not compatible with your 93.
