Having problems with your 1990 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight ?

Aftr ice storm passenger wiper arm pops off spline. I push it on and it seems to be seated but when i turn wiper motor on it lifts up and doesn't move. The spline is moving with motor when on. Is it possible the spline or wiper assembly is stripped? What about drilling throug wiper arm into spine and anchoring? This is a 1990 Oldsmobile delta 88.

Answers :

It probably stripped out or egg shaped the arm itself. Drilling it out and using a roll pin would probably work, but finding a used arm at a junkyard would be easier. Just take the old arm with you and look for any GM with a similar body style. Make sure the arms are identical, but anything from an 88 to 93 chevy olds buick should work.
There is normally a clip that would hold the wiper on the spindle.
this could be broken, or as you say, the spline or the wiper could be stripped.

i have drilled into the spline like that with varying degrees of success.
some splines have a steel shaft in the middle that makes it difficult to drill straight.
also, do not drill more than 1/4 inch into the splines as you will seriously weaken it and it will probably fall off as you try to do up the bolt.

obviously, the best way is to replace the damaged part but i have drilled through and had the wipers work for years afterwards. i have also had them fall off again or snap the first time they are used.
it is worth trying for a short term repair, but should be done properly to ensure safe wipers
