Having problems with your 1990 Toyota Pickup ?

BACKUP LIGHTS THE BACK UP LIGHTS ARE NOT COMING ON WHEN TRUCK IS PUT IN TO REVERSE. COULD IT BE A SWITCH MOUNTED ON THE TRANSMISSION? I JUST PUT NEW BULBS IN # 1157. THATS WHAT WAS IN THERE WHEN I BOUGHT IT( TRUCK ). I CHECKED ALL FUSES I COULD FIND.

Answers :

The reverse lightbulbs should be 1156. The issue coould be the trans reverse switch, but that is a rare failure. What I would do is be looking for corrosion at the connector that is under the bed, and then branches out to the taillamps. With the key on, and the trans in reverse, you should have 12 volts at the Red with a Black tracer wire in that connector. This is a very common failure area.
