Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but i think your head gasket has failed causing the oil & water to mix in the engine. usually, the water enters the oil causing the milky cream liquid (check the under side of the oil fill cap for this same creamy liquid) and you wind up adding coolant since it gets low.

\015\012if the coolant is not getting low, then it may not be anything to worry about. in the colder months, BMWs have been known to display this creamy liquid on the oil cap. it disappears when the weather gets warmer. BMW has a service bulletin on this.

\015\012have a compression check done on it to see if this is truely the case. i hope i am wrong. and 1 pint every 2-4 thousand miles is not too bad.
