Having problems with your 1991 Ford F150 ?

Hi, I have a 1988 27 ft glendale sterling motohome with a 460 engine. The tranny slips going up hill towing a 3500 lb boat and only gets up to 30 mph or so on flat hwy. I took off the boat and the motorhome seemed allot better. Atf smells burned! There is a pretty good sounding rattle coming from the doghouse when under load (ie: when I put the excellerator down somewhat) Is the tranny shot? Thx Craig Langley,Canada

Yeah i would say the tranny is shot. chances are the fluid was old and you burned the gears inside. in the future have an extra tranny cooler installed. this will keep the fluid temp down. hope this helps. rate this please... thanks
Fords have weak and short life trannies anyhow, get a shift kit put in when you have it rebuilt, it'll shift harder but that means the clutches aren't slipping to make it shift smoother and burn out quicker, the manufactures design the trans for smoother shifting to intentially burn the transmission out faster.
