Having problems with your 1992 Buick Century ?

The check engine light comes on and it dies on occasion. It is intermittent. Had it scanned and was told the only fault was mass air flow sensor. Cleaned the mass air flow sensor, replaced fuel filter and fuel pressure sensor. The problem still comes back. any thoughts.

Check engine lights are mostly caused by fuel / air delivery and emissions problems. A lot of electrical parts play a big role in this "check engine" light. Instead of cleaning the mass airflow sensor, try replacing it. Also try not to pump gas at gas station that have E10 mixtures. That could trip O2 sensors to read incorrectly and cause the engine light to come on ( a bad O2 sensor can cause that also). If you don't follow the proper maintenance schedule for you car expect to have some lights go off. I would highly recommend to replace the mass airflow sensor. You also might need to reset your car's computer by disconnecting the battery for about 10-15 minutes for it to reconfigure. If the issue still occurs try replacing the O2 sensors. If all else fails have it repaired at a mechanic shop. \015\012
Anytime you make a change to any part of the emissions system, its best to disconnect the
\015\012battery for a few minutes. If you don't, the computer retains the fault code and it will usually keep
\015\012coming back. When all power is lost to the computer, it will do a complete scan when reconnected
\015\012and engine started. Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes then reconnect and see what happens.
