Having problems with your 1992 Buick LeSabre ?

Just the starter will crank over like it wants to start but wont.

\015 I have a 92` Buick Le Sabre, one day during the summer i was driving and i went to pass someone on the road and it acted like it didnt want to shift into the next gear u know what i mean it kinda dragged and wound out, i kept driving it and about 5-10 minutes later it died on me and the steering wheel locked up so we pushed it off to the side of the road and popped the hood looked at it and someone i was with looked at it and seen what he says was a ground wire that ran from the alternator to the battery looked as if it had layed on a metal plate and gotten hot because it was partially bare i ended up covering the bare wireing with black electrical tape, we allowed the car to sit about 10-15 minutes and it started back up and when i got to where i was going i parked the car for a few hours and got it back to town which was about a half hour trip, well when i got it back to town i pulled up and it sat in idle for not even a minute and died, i went to start it back up and the starter would just crank over a winding out sound it sat for bout 10-15 minutes and it started back up, it kept on doing this just sparatically u know like when i would turn it off and if it didnt sit long enough it wouldnt start it would just crank over or like when i was driving it, it would shut off well one time i had it in idle a couple minutes and it shut off so i popped the hood because it acted like it may be over heating and it sat with the hood opened for about 45 minutes and i felt the altenator and it was still warm so i replaced the altenator with a used one and it did the same thing to it and once i turned the radio on for a minute and it shut off, i also been using the ciggarrette lighter in the car plus someone else hooked up a different radio in it, whether either one of the may have had anything to do with the problem or not i dont know, well after it kept shuttin off and not wanting to start for about 15 minutes at a time give or take a few, then one day a "friend" backed up into the car and gave it a jolt and when i went to start it up it sounded like there were chains tangled up wrapped around something and it wouldnt start it wouldnt even come on the lights wouldnt come on or the brights would be on but look like theyre on dim, the interior lights as i may recall wouldnt come on or the dash lights, i had to take the battery to wal-mart to super charge it because home standard charger you plug into outlets wasnt doin the job now keep in mind this is a new batterry that had been put in less than a year ago and when we charged it again it ran, never again did it do the sound of chains but it kept up shuttin off and not starting so we put a brand new altenator in it and it ran ok for a little bit but then it quit runnin all together, it sits and when you go to turn it over the starter winds out and the fuel pump doesnt sound like it seems to click on before you crank the igntition, there seems to be something to me that sounds like there is something burning up the altenator, the battery, and now the fuel pump, im no mechanic but have a little bit of sense and know semi-a little about cars it sounds like there may be something in the electrical system because also the cruise control has not worked since i can remeber, what im wanting to know of is what the problem is, could it be the ground wire i talked about in the begining, could it be the control module that is underneath the coil pack, maybe the fuel pump not getting fuel and making it shut off and not start which i dont think, im sure theres something else causing that problem, or what could the problem be, do i need to replace the ground wire and if so how do i do that without causing any other problems or is it the Electronic Control Module and how do i replace it without letting the timing slip and reset itself and replace the timing chain, or could it be something different if so what do you think it mighht be, if there are certified mechanics reading this could you please answer my question and tell me how to fix the problem with step by step instructions on how to do so. thank you.\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 15-08-2022

Answers :

Change your crank sensor and then take your car to be put on the computer to make sure that it is only your crank sensor. it is not your alternator. i have that problem and more.
