This is not a "how to" question but here's a reasonable answer: Your shop will generally charge an hourly rate to determine what the problem is. Generally the first hour is a given, and is not "pro-rated" or divided into parts of an hour. (twenty minutes therefore are billed as one hour) Then, depending upon what is found, the shop will give you a repair cost estimate ( IN MANY STATES, THIS ESTIMATE CANNOT BE EXCEDED BY MORE THAN 15% WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION) Many shops will apply all or part of diagnostics charges towards repair charge. You must ask about this before any work begins. In many states, upon your request (ask before work begins), shops must return to you any parts which were replaced, and must guarantee their work for at least 60 days (this may vary from state to state). The cost of the entire repair will depend upon the shops posted labor rate and the time it takes to do repair, plus the cost of the parts replaced. Now you know the how and why of repair pricing!!! Good luck!!!
