Having problems with your 1993 Geo Prizm ?

Prizm overheats, heater core leaks, no heat

\015 Just picked up a Prism that overheats. It is also leaking a little coolant into the passenger compartment, under the dash (from the heater core I assume). Also, the heat does not seem to get hot, even when the car is overheating.I tried a coolant system stop leak product, but the car still overheats. I am not sure water is actually getting through the heater core, as the inlet hose gets hot, but the outlet seems much cooler, and no hot air comes out with the heat on full bore. The valve is operating from the cable, as I see it open and the heater core inlet hose gets hot between the valve and the fire wall.Is the small leak in the core creating all these problems? Can I test this by just bypassing the heater core to see if the car temp will remain normal? What else should I do to diagnose these problems? Thanks Mike.................\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 18-11-2019

Answers :

You can bypass the core or fix it that's up to you but I would change or remove the thermostat first. If it still overheats then start looking at the water pump and radiator. Hope this helps. Good luck.
Not necessarily. It depends on what you mean by a bad heater core. The core will either be leaking or stopped up. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
