Having problems with your 1993 Saturn SL2 ?

Vibration in Steering Column at Idle

\015 I am in the process of purchasing a ''93 Saturn SL2 which appears to be\015\012in good shape except for a couple known, cheap repairs and a\015\012significant vibration in the steering column at idle. When I''m stopped\015\012at a red light with the engine in gear, the steering wheel vibrates\015\012significantly. This is my first Saturn, and I''ve read some reviews\015\012that say this model is known for a rather rough ride, but I don''t know\015\012if this particular vibration is normal or not. Once I''m driving\015\012again, the vibration in the wheel goes away (at least enough not to\015\012perceive it). I did notice that the rear-view mirror does vibrate a\015\012little while driving enough to make the cars behind you look a little\015\012shaky.\015\012\015\012One of the two known needed repairs is the MAP sensor, according to\015\012the OBD codes (the check engine light comes on after three to four\015\012minutes of driving). Is there a possibility that it''s the cause (maybe\015\012indirectly) for the vibration? What else could be causing it?\015\012(BTW, in case you''re wondering, the other repair is a power window regulator, so I''m pretty sure that''s not related.)\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 11-11-2019

Answers :

Engine vibration is the cause of this issue, it is the biggest complaint from many owners, changing the engine mounts will help, as mounts age the rubber gets hard and they don't absorb vibration like they should, new mounts help issue, but it will no stop it altogether. A faulty MAF will not cause vibration, just a hesitation on acceleration at times
Me and my dad just semi rebuilt the engine on a 93 Saturn SL2 and it has a vibration in idle my dad knows cars and said that the engine isnt broken in and/or it has sit for a year or so so check with the guy and ask him if it has had engine work
