Having problems with your 1993 Suzuki Sidekick ?

Suzuki Sidekick Electrical Problem

\015 The exterior lights (ALL), the dash back-light, and the radio all turn off, but the vehicle keeps running fine. The problem is on and off, but usually when I leave in the morning it's fine, then it happens after a few miles. Sometimes it 'fixes' itself for a few minutes. I have checked fuses, but they're all good (and if it was a fuse, the lights wouldn't come back on). When the problem occurs, the wipers still work and the turn signal dash indicator works, but not the dash back-light, or the actual turn signal, also the heating/cooling fan works. I'm pretty sure it could be a ground problem, or a relay, but I don't know where to start looking, \012thanks in advance !\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 18-06-2018

Answers :

Go under the Hood and find the Black Box with all the electrical connections in it. Upon opening it you will find some high capacity Fuses/Relays some of which are 50 Amps. Those large units power the system to feed all the smaller fuses and relays. If you have a failed connection along that line everything in the car shuts off but the engine just keeps on running as if nothing has happened. As you look at that box follow the cables to the engine and body mounts as those are the ground cables you are asking about. As I suggested to another person go buy a bottle of "Anti-Seize" Copper before starting this and apply a small amount to the connectors prior to reassembly. This will improve conductivity and prevent moisture from damaging your work as fast as you do it. I live in Wisconsin so dealing with autos in the rust belt requires forward thinking.
Sounds like a short in the headlamp/turn signal switch.
Thats why its intermentant.
