Having problems with your 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier ?

Overheating 1994 chevy cavalier, either a 2.0 or 2.2 motor. Anti-freeze is good. New thermostat. Can travel several miles but, when it heats up it's severe. A guy told my husband we need to get a ''rocker arm stud'' whatever that is. Going up hills is the worst time for it to heat up but, it doesn't cool down much once you turn downhill. Any advice on what we should do? Thanks! I should also mention that where we live you almost always have a hill or a mountain to deal with.
