U joint replacement 94 chevy cavalier

\015 I have a stripped thread on the u joint bolt in place and I can't get the nut back on, I have a replacement ujoint but its a bolt on and the one on the car looks like the original and is press fitted on both ends where it attaches to the arm. how hard is it to break those rivets loose in order to replace it and what would the steps be?\015\012\015\012or should I just try to file the bolt edges to try and get the nut on the current ball joint.\015\012\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 18-10-2021

Answers :

If your talking about the lower ball joint , the OEM ball joint is riveted on with three rivets, the replacement is bolted on with three bolts/nuts. Carefully drill out these rivets (try not to elongate the mounting holes) . Drill the heads off and use a pin punch to remove the rivets. Pull off the old ball joint and install new with attaching hardware (which should be provided in kit). I can't remember the torque values, any shop should be able to provide this but I think it's 50 ft. lbs.
