Having problems with your 1994 Dodge Shadow ?

High engine Idle

\015 I'm Idled up a little past 2000 RPM. This thing is ready to leave the gate.\012However on a cold start it will hover at 1000, slowly tick it's way up to 2000 as it warms up, and when it does it"s ready to rock and roll, rather you are or not. I pulled the throttle body off cleaned it up with break cleaner, removed the throttle position sensor, cleaned it as well, put everything back and it Idled a little above 1500 for a few days, and now its back at 2000 again. I checked for air leaks by blowing cigar smoke into the emission lines, they were tight. I'm about to replace the throttle position sensor to see what happens. I do have a engine light, not sure if the two are connected, I can use some input however I will respond if the problem is resolved.\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 10-12-2018

Answers :

Find out what the trouble codes are before you replace anything.
I would disconnect the idle air control valve when the idle speed is around 1200 and see if the idle speed stays or continues to climb.
if it climbs with the valve unplugged, you have a vac leak somewhere, probably the intake gasket.
