The ignition switch is mounted on the steering column under the dash. There is a rod that travels down the steering column from the key to the switch. Most likely on the switch there are bolts that hold it in place. The switch may have shifted a little out of position. Loosen the bolts and adjust it until it is in the proper location - this should solve the problem. The electrical switch may need to be replaced as well.
You will need to replace that key switch, sorry,no qwuick fix. the steering wheel will have to be removed and most of the steering column will need to be moved out of way to replace the ignition switch. the tilt in the steering column has rubbed a bare spot in the ignition wiring. be careful of fire hazard!!if you smell burning plastic, rubber, remove the positive cable from battery as soon as possible!!!!!!!! the key switch costs about $20.00 from autozone or advance auto or nappa auto parts.it's available online to order also. hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com,,,,,if you need further assistance, please repost your question and an expert will be happy to assist you.
