Having problems with your 1994 Honda Accord ?

Honda Accord 1994

\015 I want to buy 1994 Accord LX 250k highway miles on it 5 speed manual. Only one issue I see there is oil leak on top of engine and guy says he adds 1 quart of oil between oil change. Car is in good shape everything works even heater and AC. Runs great. And price is good too. Should I still consider buying it or not\015\012Thanks\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 21-01-2019

\015\012 Is the oil on top of the engine in the bolts that hold the valve cover on tight? How about oil around the spark plugs when you pull them out?
\015\012If this is the case, this is a very easy fix. You have to replace the valve cover gasket as well as the gasket rings around the bolts and spark plugs. These rings are included when you buy the valve cover or they should be. If not, ask for them. I used auto part store gaskets and they do not last as long as the ones I get from the dealer. Not sure why but it could be the difference in quality of the products.
\015\012I have a 1992 Accord with 291K and it runs like a top. I have replaced several items over the years like the starter, timing belts, 3 sets of tires etc. but no major failures. The key is to do things proactively so they do not become a major failure. I always have any type of oil leaked fixed before it causes additional issues somewhere else.
\015\012Hope this helps.
250,000 miles is a lot, although for a properly maintained Honda it could probably go many more. With any high mileage car purchase, you always run the risk of something happening, major or minor. I would ask the recent history...what has been fixed or replaced in the last 50,000 miles? Also, with any oil leak, there's the chance that it is making a bigger leak, although with a engine with this many miles, thats not uncommon. I would just monitor the oil levels carefully. You don't want the engine to seize.
One last thing, check out www.carsurvey.org. You can look up any make and model and see what real people who own the same car think and what problems they have had.
Good luck in your decision!
