Most common item that will cause that is the crank position sensor on the bellhousing at about 11 o'clock looking from rear. You should do a quick code check (turn the key on and off three times, leaving it on the third time...check engine light will flash. each flash sequence is a number that can be referenced in either chilton or haynes manual.) In same manuals, there are individual component tests that you can do using a digital multi-meter. I have given you a good educated guess but there is no replacement for hands-on testing, which I can't do from here. I'd also take a look at the auto shut down relay and any fuses in the system.
Testing is essential or guessing can get expensive really fast.
