Having problems with your 1994 Mitsubishi Diamante ?

94 Mitsubishi Diamante. The car obviously has a torque converter problem since it slips of gears and generates heat and noise. It does not drive since every gear including reverse is like natural. I wonder how much is it usually to fix in labor costs? the converter itself is not expensive. I looked it up and it is under $200 my question is how much do i have to pay my mechanic (not dialer) to diagnose and fix the problem?

Answers :

This is not the torque converter -- they don't cause slippage problems.

There is something wrong with your transmission. It sounds like the front pump isn't making it anymore. It would be a good idea to get a "test drive" and estimate from a transmission shop to get a more diagnostic answer to what exactly is wrong, but you can bet it's not the converter.

Do make sure there is ample fluid in the transmission.

Also, sometimes just replacing the filter and the fluid is all it takes. If the filter is starving the pump you'll get this kind of problem. The filter is on the bottom of the transmission, inside the pan. Put a tray under the transmission, then loosen the pan bolts a little to drain the fluid in a controlled fashion.

Replace the filter, put the pan back on (after cleaning the gasket surface clean as a whistle and bone dry), then refill with new fluid.
