Having problems with your 1994 Oldsmobile 88 ?

A 1994 Oldsmobile Royal 88 has a problem on the security system

\015 You can start it by holding the door open and the interior light has to be on. When you decide to drive it somewhere you have to have the door open and the interior light must be on. Sometimes you can't start it at all if it has been sitting there awhile.\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 30-11-2020

Ok first off let me warn you i have had this problem before but let me verify something before i finish warning you . the lights are on all the time or are you saying they have to be on to start the car?

\015\012Ok now for the warning you may not like me very good when i tell you the info that took care of my problem like that the reason being is because it is VERY expensive and may not correct your problem it helps on some of the cars with the problem and some it dont
\015\012My car has that pass key cap with the chip made into the key that starts the car itself and has a security feauture that will stop the car from starting if that key is wet, dirty or blown up( exposed to static thus blowing the chip) therre is one big differance though i have noticed on mine it done exactly what yours is but when driving or if i try to start mine in neutral the security light came on .

\015\012ok i know you are saying omg what price am i looking at and I honestly dont know since olds went out of business but before they went out it was going to cost me 800 for the chip 100 for key and 50 service fee
\015\012Now there is an alternative however to check this out and see if it is your key or not
\015\012if you have a second key try using it to start it and see if it does the same thing; if it does then its not the key but the security mechanisim inside the sterring column which means a new sterring column and possibly a new airbag system ( usually a shop Job) this security feature is nice however its alot of pain because after 3 minutes it shuts the car down completely ( the car thinks its stolen )
