Thermostat in backwards?

\015 I have a 94 Subaru lagacy 2.2L. I had to replace the water pump, but I\015\012think I got the thermostat in the wrong way. I test drove the car a\015\012short distance, and on the way home the temp gauge shot up. I made it\015\012home safely and opened the hood to let it cool. Which way should the\015\012thermostat be facing?\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 01-03-2021

Answers :

The bulky end of the thermostat should be facing away from the radiator so that it is placed in the engine such as to sense the temperature of the water in the engine and not the radiator hose.
Sometimes, there is printing on the thermostat that will tell you. Check and see if your coooling system has to be bleed, sometimes you have to do that.make sure you have a mix of water and antifreeze, according to the bottle of antifreeze. If you have only 1 or the other, it will overheat too.
