Having problems with your 1994 Volvo 850 ?

Sometimes won't start after warmed-up. Now very hard to start.

\015 I have a 1994 Volvo 850 sedan non-turbo.\015\012\015\012Lately, sometimes after engine was warmed up, it wouldn't restart. Sometimes it would stall and not want to restart, unless it sat for some time. Now, it is very difficult to get started.\015\012\015\012I replaced the air and fuel filter. Old fuel filter had fuel in it, when removed. I checked new fuel filter, after trying to start, and didn't get any fuel out of it. When key is turned on, I don't sense any motor sounds coming from fuel pump. Should I?\015\012\015\012I do have spark at coil and spark plug wires.\015\012\015\012Please advise.\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 16-07-2018

Hey Rob!\015\012
\015\012I can almost guarantee you that your problem is the infamous fuel pump relay. Open the hood and remove the fuse box cover (4 torx screws) to gain access to the relays. One of the relays is probably a green one marked 103. If so it needs to be replaced with a red, improved version.\015\012If it's not the relay the problem is probably the pump itself.\015\012Here's a link to some useful info on the relay and fuel pump:\015\012http://www.volvo-forums.com/index.php?showtopic=15505&st=80&p=80586&#entry80586

\015\012You should also check for spark when the problem is present.\015\012No spark could indicate faulty coil, camshaft position sensor or crankshaft position sensor.\015\012Checking a plug for spark is easy: Unscrew the plug and hold it to ground with a pair of insulated pliers or something similar while the problem is present. Have someone crank the engine while you look for spark. Should the engine start while lacking one plug it will sound horrible, but will not be harmed as long as you don't run it too long and don't rev it.
