Strange noise and smell after attempting to charge a/c
\015 After a short attempt at a DIY a/c charge, the car is now making a loud noise when started. It almost sounds like a belt squealing. There is also a faint burning smell. The recharge kit came with a can of 134a, same as what the car specifies. On the first attempt to charge, following the instructions on the back of the package, the hose came apart where crimped (on the end that goes to the can) and freon sprayed. Very little freon, if any, was added.Gave up and decided to wait and take it to a mechanic for the a/c charge instead. Now we have the noise and a smell that we didn't have prior to this. Not sure what it could be or where exactly it's even coming from.I thought maybe when the freon sprayed it possibly got on a belt or something. I'm hoping that it just needs to burn off or evaporate, if possible. The car is a 1995 Camaro Z28 LT1, automatic. The a/c has needed to be charged every year for the last 4 years.\015
Yes those cans of freon come with a conditioner/lubracant in them as well as the freon. Its very possiable that you got some where it does not belong. If you are filling every year you have a leak. If you are not evacuating the system chances are you are over filling it. Take it like you said to a shop. Then after they evacuate it fill it on your own a few years.
