When was the last time your engine received new spark plugs?? How many miles on the engine. I'm trying to get an idea of the condition of this vehicle. I may not reslove, but I'll try. Higher octane fuel may be needed, but I don't know what fuel this vehicle uses.( regular,hi test?)
The reason it is pinging is because you are running lean. First thing is go to chevron and fill up with the 91 octane and buy the techron injector cleaner. The 91 alone may get rid of the pinging but the injectors may be clogged so using the injector cleaner will allow more fuel be be delivered Then after the injectors are cleaned you can start using 87 again. You may ned to do this for a couple tank fulls.
\015\012If this doesnt help you will need a diagnostic scanner to know what sensor is not behaving correctly. Its the only way without guessing
