This is the entire task for it. It sounds like you might not have torqued it correctly, or your intake is cracked. But take a look at all of the info:
\015\012
\015\012VIN K Engine\015\012On these engines, the upper and lower intake manifolds must be removed separately.
\015\012
    \015\012
  1. \015\012Properly relieve the fuel system pressure, as outlined in Section 5 of this manual.
  2. \015\012
  3. \015\012Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. \015\012
  5. \015\012Drain the cooling system into a suitable container.
  6. \015\012
  7. \015\012Remove the fuel injector sight shield and air intake duct.
  8. \015\012
  9. \015\012Tag and disconnect the spark plug wires on the right side of the engine and position aside.
  10. \015\012
  11. \015\012Remove the manifold vacuum source.
  12. \015\012
  13. \015\012Remove the fuel rail.
  14. \015\012
  15. \015\012Remove the EGR heat shield.
  16. \015\012
  17. \015\012Unfasten the cable bracket-to-cylinder head mounting bolt.
  18. \015\012
  19. \015\012Disconnect the throttle cable.
  20. \015\012
  21. \015\012Remove the throttle body support bracket.
  22. \015\012
  23. \015\012Unfasten the upper intake manifold bolts, then remove the upper manifold.
\015\012This engine has two bolts which are hidden beneath the upper intake. These bolts are located in the right front and left rear corners of the lower intake manifold. This is why it is necessary to remove the upper before servicing the lower manifold.
\015\012
    \015\012
  1. \015\012Disconnect the upper radiator hose.
  2. \015\012
  3. \015\012Remove the alternator, as outlined in Section 2 of this manual.
  4. \015\012
  5. \015\012Remove the drive belt tensioner.
  6. \015\012
  7. \015\012Remove the EGR valve outlet pipe.
  8. \015\012
  9. \015\012Unfasten the intake manifold bolt, then remove the manifold from the vehicle. Remove and discard the gaskets. Thoroughly clean the gasket mating surfaces, intake manifold bolts and bolt holes.
\015\012To install:
\015\012
    \015\012
  1. \015\012Position a new gasket, then place the lower intake manifold over it. Apply a suitable threadlocking compound to the bolts, then install them. For 1995 vehicles, tighten the bolts twice, to 88 inch lbs. (10 Nm), in the sequence shown in the accompanying figure. For 1996-97 vehicles, tighten the bolts to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm), in the sequence shown in the accompanying figure.
  2. \015\012
      \015\012
    1. \015\012Install the EGR valve outlet pipe.
    2. \015\012
    3. \015\012Install the drive belt tensioner.
    4. \015\012
    5. \015\012Install the alternator.
    6. \015\012
    7. \015\012Connect the upper radiator hose.
    8. \015\012
    9. \015\012Position the upper intake manifold on the lower manifold. Install the retaining bolts and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
    10. \015\012
    11. \015\012Install the throttle body support bracket, then connect the throttle cable.
    12. \015\012
    13. \015\012Install the cable bracket-to-cylinder head mounting bolt.
    14. \015\012
    15. \015\012Install the EGR heat shield.
    16. \015\012
    17. \015\012Install the fuel rail.
    18. \015\012
    19. \015\012Install the manifold vacuum source.
    20. \015\012
    21. \015\012Connect the right side spark wires on the right side of the engine.
    22. \015\012
    23. \015\012Install the fuel injector sight shield and air intake duct.
    24. \015\012
    25. \015\012Fill the cooling system with the proper type and amount of fluid.
    26. \015\012
    27. \015\012Connect the negative battery cable. Start the engine and check for leaks. Check the cooling system, and add as necessary.
You may be suffering from a warped manifold. Did this problem arrive over time or after engine work involving the heads? Remove the manifold and take it to a machine shop to verify warpage. They may be able to resurface the port areas without removing too much metal. Hopefully, a doubled gasket set will replace the removed metal. If not, another manifold is in order.
