Having problems with your 1996 Chevrolet K1500 ?

Tranny shifts 1st and 2nd but no 3rd or 4th gears

First I would check shifter...The ball end of shifter and or spring can be worn out and cause this problem...I am truck tech and have seen this happen many times rather than the trans.....
\012I am not saying it isnt the trans but to save time and money ....Disconnect battery,set emergency brake,block wheels on level ground remove boot cover 4 shifter bolts...check spring for tension and shifter ball for wear....It is easy to see if it is worn...First and second are on the same rail but when you have to move it to third and fourth the ball wont engage the other rails from spring slop or ball end wear..

You might want to check the linkage on the tranny, or have the bands tightend\012
