Having problems with your 1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo ?
No tail light, changed all bulbs and checked the fuse
I had the same problem it is most likely the turn signal switch. i just replaced mineit only took me about an hour or so.. and now my brake lights are working as they should. The part was about $70 from advanced auto parts and it would be $100 or so in labor unless you do it yourself. I know it sounds weird that the turn signal switch would mess with the brake lights but it does. the brake lights on my car would work after turning the signal to the left then off, but then if i turned to the right then off they would go out. By the way if you do it yourself make sure the signal stays to either side before reassembling mine wouldn't stay to the right and i had to take it all apart... and be very careful with the airbag... here is a right up on how to do it http://tss.likeabigdog.com/ Hope this helps you.
Are you getting power and/ or ground to the tail light socket if no power more than likely the switch is bad
