1996 dodge ram 2500 auto transmission not shifting properly

\015 Describe your 1996 dodge ram 2500 transmission Problem Automatic Transmission has started acting flaky. When in Drive, it will shift through first and second gear normally, but does not go into third or overdrive. Initially I could bump up in to neutral, then back down into drive and it would shift normally for a while. Last time I tried to drive it did not shift above second (acted like it did shift but was more like no gear - neutral). I'm going to try changing fluid/filter before I shott the truck. Any ideas?\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 15-07-2019

Well, first do the service. Pull the pan down and look for metal shavings. If there is metal shavings your in for a transmission. If not, you may have a problem with one of the transmissions shift solenoids located near the valve body.
\015\012P.S. The Duramax has the Allison 1000 transmission not the dodge cummins and they are one of the best trannys on the market.
Throttle position sencer needs replace or speed sencer on transfer case needs to be replaced.
