Your linkage is either broken or disconnected. You will need to remove the door pannel & take a look inside where the door handle is & the bars that hook into it.
You would have to open the inside panel of the door, which is not really that hard to do. The main thing is don't force anything to come off. Make sure all the screw holding it is removed. After that the panel is held with plastic pins that lock into place, just pry them off one by one carefull. Once opened, you will see the linkage from the handle to the opening mechanism which are usually thin metal rods bent to shape. the ends are bent like "L" to fit inside a hole with plastic insulation in it. Just push the rod back in, test if it work and put everything the way it was. This problem usually happen when someone tries to open your car with a slim jim and push the rod out of its place. hope this helps.
