Having problems with your 1996 Ford Explorer ?

How do I find and replace the O2 sensors? - 1996 Ford Explorer

Answers :

The 02 sensors are located in the front exhaust pipe coming from the exhaust manifolds,(called the Y pipe),there should be one 02 sensor in each front pipe with a 3 wire plug,(possibly 2 wire plug)depending on the system,it takes a 7/8" box end wrench to remove the sensors or you can buy a 02 sensor socket.some times you have to use an acceytalyne torch to heat the area around the sensor to unseize it from the pipe.if this happens be aware that you may have run a tread cleaning tool to clean up the threads in the pipe.you may find it less aggravating to have a shop perform the work
Here this should help. Explorer sensor location
