Having problems with your 1996 Isuzu Trooper ?

How do I clean the EGR PIPE in this 1996 Trooper? I have a P0401 code, have replaced the EGR valve, put a cleaner thru the system via the air intake, put a cleaner in the gas and still the P0401 code. I am told that I need to clean the EGR pipe. I know where it is, but don't know how to take it off and clean it? Thanks.

It should just unbolt. The problem is those tend to get frozen to the exhaust manifold, especially the higher mileage ones. Once you get it of, let it set in carb cleaner for awhile. If you have a flexable wire gun stock type brush, this will help aid you in this. You might even try a local machine shop for the carb solvent if you do not have any.
Mo EGR Valve and the set screw below it. I used a rifle cleaning brush and one rod to cleaned the canal built in to the intake manifold. I then started the engine and sprayed carb cleaner through the front port under the EGR Valve (the vacuum one). I replaced the set screw and the EGR Valve and reset the codes. Everything is fixed.8_26_2012_9_52_45_pm.jpg
